The team is made of two groups, Matière interstellaire (Interstellar Matter) and Cosmologie (Cosmology). Our research activities span a broad range of fields, from the physics of interstellar dust grains to the cosmology of the primordial universe. The Simons Observatory (SO has reached a significant milestone with the successful installation of its Large Aperture Telescope (LAT).
At midday on Wednesday March 19, 2025, ESA released the first survey data from the Euclid space mission.
The first data were presented on Tuesday 12 July. They confirm the exceptional performance of the JWST and its four scientific instruments (NIRSPec, NIRISS, NIRCam, MIRI), in particular the angular resolution and sensitivity which are often better than predicted.
Jean-Loup Puget, Director of Research Emeritus at the IAS and former director of the laboratory has been awarded the Shaw Prize in 2018, the "asian Nobel Prize" in the Astronomy category.
The SPICA infrared space telescope has just been pre-selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to participate in the final competition, which in September 2021 will see the choice of ESA's next medium-sized mission (mission M5).
