The SOHO mission (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory - ESA/NASA) was conceived for the study of the internal structure of the Sun, the heating of its atmosphere and the origin of the solar wind. It was launched by the end of 1995 from Cape Canaveral.

Among the twelve instruments aboard SOHO, three have a solar group member as a PI : GOLF (Global Oscillation at Low Frequency), EIT (Extreme ultra-violet Imaging Telescope),SUMER (Solar Ultra-violet Measurements of Emitted Radiation. The group led the design and the realisation of these instruments and participated in others too with many members of the group as co-Is. The data center MEDOC at IAS distributes the whole SOHO data set.
