IAS Green Day

22/01/2025 - 17:00

The first "Green Day" at IAS, dedicated to climate change and carbon emissions, took place on Thursday, January 9, 2025. This initiative aims to raise awareness within our community about environmental issues and promote concrete actions to reduce the carbon footprint associated with laboratory activities.

The day began with a detailed presentation of our laboratory's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment (BGES), followed by a discussion about carbon emission sources within IAS and strategies to consider for reducing them. An interactive quiz followed to evaluate our knowledge of daily carbon emissions, both professional and personal, such as the carbon footprint of a laptop. In collaboration with the seminar organization team, this day was an opportunity to welcome Guillaume Blanc (IJCLab) for his seminar "What kind of research in an ecologically constrained world?"

After a low-carbon, zero-waste, and convivial meal, the day continued with two workshops: "My Earth in 180 minutes" and "The Climate Fresk," gathering about twenty participants (see photos). These workshops offered a practical and collaborative approach to exploring the causes and consequences of climate change, as well as actions we can take to address it.

We hope this initiative will inspire concrete actions within our laboratory and beyond.

Thank you to all participants for their contribution to this day!

The "My Earth in 180 Minutes" workshop, where a team managed to reduce a fictional research team's emissions by 50%! Well done!
